How the SolarKing Wireless Roof Fan Works

The Solarking Wireless Roof Fan uses solar power to extract air from the roof cavity. Replacement air enters through suitable eave vents or other roof-space openings.

Sometimes called a solar whirlybird, it uses a solar-powered motor rather than relying on wind. Its effectiveness depends on available sunlight, roof layout, air-entry openings and installation.

This guide covers the Wireless V4 model. View the SolarKing Wireless V4 product page for current specifications, price and availability.

Wireless Remote Controls and Timers

The supplied remote lets you turn the fan on or off, choose one of four speeds and set a 1, 2, 4 or 8-hour timer.

Automatic temperature control normally starts the fan above approximately 25°C when sufficient power is available. The remote can override that temperature setting when you want ventilation in cooler conditions.

The V4 remembers your last selected speed without requiring the optional power supply. The remote still needs the fan to have sufficient solar or backup power available.

Daily Ventilation in Cooler Conditions

The Wireless V4 has an automatic daily ventilation function that runs for approximately 15 minutes during cooler conditions when solar power is available. It does not require the optional mains power supply, and the function can be disabled using the remote.

Ventilation does not remove existing mould or repair leaks. Read our roof-space mould and condensation guide to understand where ventilation fits into moisture management.

Can It Run After Sunset?

An optional 240V AC to 15V DC backup power supply is sold separately. When connected to a suitable power point, it allows operation when solar power is insufficient.

Normal temperature control still applies unless overridden using the remote. SolarKing specifies a maximum of three-quarter speed on the optional supply.

Without backup power, the remote cannot make the fan run in darkness.

Solar Roof Heat Extraction: What to Expect

The fan ventilates the roof cavity; it is not an air conditioner. Results vary with the roof, climate, insulation, sunlight and installation. Do not assume a fixed temperature reduction or guaranteed electricity savings.

Suitable replacement-air openings are important. Use our solar roof fan calculator as a starting estimate, then review the assumptions and your roof layout.

Standard or Wireless?

The Wireless V4 adds remote speed control, timers, temperature override and its daily ventilation function.

If you prefer automatic operation without these controls, compare the SolarKing Standard V4 roof fan.

Installation and Warranty

Follow the installation instructions for your roof type, including fixing and waterproofing requirements. See our solar roof fan installation guide.

The current Wireless V4 has a three-year manufacturer warranty. Check the product listing and warranty terms before purchasing.
