SolarKing V4 Roof Fan: Your Questions Answered

A hot roof can make the rooms below feel warmer. The standard SolarKing V4 helps by drawing hot air out of the roof space using power from its solar panel. Here are the questions we’re most often asked before someone chooses a fan.

How does the SolarKing V4 work?

The fan sits on the roof and pulls hot air out of the roof cavity. Cooler outside air enters through the roof’s existing vents to replace it. For the best result, make sure there’s a clear path for that replacement air to come in.

Will it switch itself on and off?

Yes. The standard V4 operates automatically when there’s enough sunlight and the roof-space temperature is above approximately 25°C. You don’t need to go up into the roof to turn it on.

Does it need a power point?

Not for normal daytime use—it runs on solar power. If you add the optional 240V backup power pack, you’ll need a power point near the fan.

Will it work on a hot, cloudy day?

It may run more slowly when sunlight is weak. If you want more dependable operation on overcast days, you can add the optional backup power pack.

Can it run after sunset?

Yes, if you add the optional backup power pack. Without it, the fan has no solar power after dark.

What’s the difference between the standard and wireless models?

The standard fan is the simple, automatic choice: it runs when there’s enough sun and the roof space is warm. The Wireless V4 adds a remote control, so you can adjust the speed, set a timer or override the normal temperature setting.

If you’d like that extra control, see the SolarKing Wireless V4.

How many fans will I need?

For many smaller homes, one is a good starting point. If your roof space is over approximately 200 m², split into separate sections or has limited airflow between areas, two or more fans may give more even ventilation. If you’re unsure, tell us about your roof and we can help you work it out.

Will it fit a tiled or metal roof?

Yes, the SolarKing V4 can be installed on tiled and metal roofs. The important part is fitting and sealing the flashing correctly for your roof. A capable DIYer or roof plumber can install it, but we’d use a professional if you’re unsure about working on the roof.

Is it noisy?

The V4 is designed for quiet operation, although you may hear a gentle fan sound indoors depending on your ceiling and where it’s installed. If being able to slow the fan down matters to you, the Wireless V4 has adjustable speed settings.

Will it cool my house like an air conditioner?

It cools the roof space, not the air inside your rooms. Removing built-up heat above the ceiling may help your home feel more comfortable, but the difference will depend on your insulation, roof design, ventilation and weather.

Can it help with moisture or mould in the roof?

Moving air through a roof cavity can help damp areas dry, provided fresh air can enter. If you already have a moisture or mould problem, it’s also important to find out where the moisture is coming from. For more control over ventilation during cooler weather, consider the Wireless V4.

What warranty comes with the fan?

The SolarKing V4 comes with a three-year replacement warranty.
