How to Extend Starlink to a Shed, Workshop or Second Building

Starlink can provide excellent internet to rural and remote homes, but there's one common problem:

How do you get your Starlink internet from the house to a shed or another building hundreds of metres away?

Your Starlink connection may be fast at the house, but normal WiFi coverage can fall away quickly once you move outside — particularly when sheds, trees and distance are involved.

One solution is to create a dedicated wireless link between the buildings.

Can I Extend Starlink WiFi to My Shed?

Yes.

Rather than trying to make the Starlink router itself transmit WiFi across your whole property, you can connect a point-to-point wireless bridge to your existing network.

The system uses two outdoor antennas.

One is located at the building with your Starlink connection.

The other is mounted on your shed, workshop, granny flat or other remote building.

The antennas are pointed towards each other and create a dedicated wireless network link between the two locations.

Extend Starlink Without Running Cable Across the Property

Running Ethernet from your house to a remote shed isn't always practical.

You may need to cross:

  • Paddocks

  • Driveways

  • Gardens

  • Roads

  • Rocky ground

  • Creeks

  • Livestock areas

Instead of digging a long trench, the SatPlus system sends the network connection wirelessly between two outdoor units.

Where Can I Send My Starlink Internet?

A point-to-point link can be useful for getting your Starlink connection from the main house to a:

Essentially, if the two locations have suitable line of sight, a wireless bridge can be used to carry the network between them.

Will I Have WiFi at the Other End?

The point-to-point system carries the internet connection to the second building.

At the remote end you can connect a WiFi router or wireless access point to provide local WiFi coverage.

That allows you to use your Starlink connection for phones, computers, smart TVs, cameras and other internet-connected equipment at the second building.

For an Ethernet IP security camera, you may also be able to connect the camera directly to the remote unit.

Why Not Just Use a Normal WiFi Extender?

A standard household WiFi extender has to receive a usable WiFi signal before it can repeat it.

This can work around a house, but becomes much less practical when you're trying to cross a large yard or paddock.

A point-to-point system is different.

The outdoor antennas are directional and are specifically used to create a connection between two locations.

It is a much more appropriate solution when the aim is to get Starlink from one building to another.
