Internet at the House, but Nothing at the Shed? Bridge the Gap with SatPlus

You’ve got internet at the house, but walk out to the shed and the Wi-Fi disappears. For anyone living on acreage, it’s a familiar frustration.

Perhaps you want to watch a repair video in the workshop, work from a separate studio or get internet into a second dwelling. Your house router simply may not reach that far.

The SatPlus Rural and Remote Internet Extender Kit, with the optional wireless router added, provides a practical way to share your existing internet connection between two buildings.

How does it work?

The kit uses two outdoor antennas to create a wireless bridge. One connects to your internet modem or router at the house. The other mounts at the receiving building and points back towards it.

The bridge carries your network connection between the buildings. At the receiving end, the added wireless router provides local Wi-Fi for your phone, laptop, smart TV and other devices.

Think of the bridge as the connection across your property, and the router as the Wi-Fi inside your shed.

Extend Starlink or your existing internet

The kit can connect to Starlink or a standard internet modem/router through an Ethernet connection. Depending on your Starlink equipment, you may need an Ethernet adapter.

It shares the internet service you already have, so you don’t need to arrange a separate internet subscription for the receiving building.

Your available speed will still depend on your original internet connection, the wireless link and how many devices are using it.

Reach further across your property

The outdoor bridge supports distances of up to 5 km with suitable line of sight. Trees, hills and buildings can affect performance, so mounting position matters.

Before choosing your mounting locations, check that the antennas have a clear path towards each other. A shorter distance with obstructions can be more challenging than a longer, open path.

A kit with the mounting equipment included

The SatPlus kit includes:

  • Two outdoor bridge antennas, supplied factory matched.

  • Two zinc-coated roof mounts and antenna mounting hardware.

  • Power supplies and Power over Ethernet injectors.

  • Two 20-metre Ethernet cables and two 1-metre Ethernet cables.

The Ethernet cable supplies both power and data to each antenna. Power is still required at both ends, but you avoid running a network cable between the buildings.

Choose the optional wireless router when ordering to add Wi-Fi at the receiving end.

Put your shed connection to work

Once connected, you can use the internet for everyday jobs: looking up machinery parts, making video calls, streaming entertainment or working away from the house.

The bridge can also carry network traffic for compatible security cameras, giving you another way to connect equipment around your property.
