The Satking 800CA VAST certified satellite decoder is now available. Designed in Australia, this decoder ticks all the boxes for both the home user and the traveller. The first thing you'll love about this unit is its size. Measuring a mere 220 mm wide it will fit in any entertainment cabinet at home or on a shelf in a caravan. Being powered by an external transformer (included), the unit can be operated from a 240V AC socket at home or via a cigarette lead. Power consumption is a mere 9 watts so it is economical to run whether from the transformer or from the battery of your van. Better still, the Satking DVBS2-800CA is PVR ready so you can record the programs direct to a USB stick or drive (not included).
On the rear panel, you'll find:
Having an external IR sensor port means that the 800CA can be mounted in an overhead cupboard in the van or in an enclosed entertainment unit yet still operate from the remote control. This is achieved by plugging in the external sensor cable and mounting the sensor in a visible location such as on the front of the cabinet or anywhere in view of the remote control signal. All functions of the remote control can be used this way without the need to open the cupboard. This is a fantastic feature and the SatKing DVBS 800CA is the only VAST certified satellite decoder that offers this feature. We have 2 sensors available for the SatKing 800CA - 1 metre or 3 metre.
On starting up the 800CA, the first screen you'll see will be the following:
The screenshot above shows that the decoder is searching for signal. When the dish is aligned, the decoder will immediately change to the scanning screen and load all available channels. Also displayed on this screen is the smartcard number that is paired to the decoder. Worth writing down the number at this stage. Of course the smartcard number can also be obtained by removing the smartcard from the decoder and recording the number from under the card.
The main menu offers shows various useful sub menus including the SIGNAL FINDING section. This is particularly useful for travellers who require an easy to ready screen while aligning their dish.
Entering the SIGNAL FINDING screen bring you to a map of Australia where you can select a state and zone in on that state to attain pertinent alignnment information such as ELEVATION, DIRECTION and LNB SKEW.
A lot of planning and design has gone into the software and many Australians were involved in the design. This has resulted in a decoder that suits the Australian market more so than a product designed overseas. The included remote control is well designed and incorporates a learning feature so you can program it to control your TV as well.
Whether using this decoder for home or on the road, you'll get access to all of the available VAST channels. For those of you living in any state other than WA, the channels available via the VAST service are:
VAST viewers will be able to receive all ABC digital television services including those from other states.
VAST viewers will be able to receive all SBS digital television services including those from other states.
Regional news feeds are also available (see channel 4 on VAST). These news feeds are broadcast at various times throughout the evening. This enables the viewer to catch up on local news as well as national news from the commercial and public broadcast providers.
For those of you living in WA, all of the ABC and SBS channels will be available to you also. However, instead of receiving the commercial channels Seven Central, Imparja and Ten, you will receive Prime and Win. See below:

Want to record one channel while watching another? Or record two channels at the same...
Living in a poor TV reception area or already have the old Aurora satellite service...
The VAST 22” integrated LED/LCD TV is designed specifically for the Australian VAST market. The TV...
I already have a VAST decoder and dish working a TV in the far end of the house. If I were to purchase a second decoder (for another part of the house) join it via a splitter on the dish cable to the second decoder and TV would it work OK ?
Yes a splitter would work fine. It needs to be a satellite splitter though, with power pass on both ports and rated to 2400 MHz.
Would this be a suitable replacement for an Altech UEC DS 4121 (this is playing up)? Can I use my existing smart card or would I need to 'activate' (if that is the correct term) another one?
If you were to purchase the Satking decoder to replace your existing DSD 4121 decoder it would be supplied with a new smartcard that is paired to the SatKing box. Simply email VAST and let them know you have purchased a new decoder and give them the new card number and all services would be enabled.
do you have the ir attachment and if so what price. the 12 volt lead as well
We certainly do have both the IR sensor and the 12V leads.
