Pros & Cons of Our Roof Mounted Satellite Systems

We have 3 roof mounted satellite systems to choose from; the Maxview Crank Up, the Maxview Connect and the Satking Promax. Read below for a breakdown of the pros and cons of each of our systems.

All systems have a twin output LNB so are Foxtel and VAST compatible and come with a 3 year warranty. They can all be self installed and come with detailed DIY instructions.

Maxview Crank Up

PROS

  • Manual wind up mechanism so no possibility of electronic failure
  • 85cm dish reflector easily provides Australia wide coverage with plenty of signal margin even when used in remote areas
  • Aerodynamic design
  • Less weight at only 11kg on the roof so no need for reinforcing
  • Lowest profile at only 17cm off the roof
  • Much lower cost than an automatic system
  • Easier to service or troubleshoot in the unlikely event of a problem
  • No software - no updates required
  • The ability to fine-tune and search in treed areas where a software driven auto system is unlikely to lock onto the satellite

CONS

  • Manual skew - requires the user to access and rotate the LNB when travelling from East to West
  • Larger footprint on roof - 1.2m x 1m
  • User must remember to manually wind down the system when driving off

Maxview Crank Up

Maxview Connect

PROS

  • Fully automatic including auto skew
  • 85cm dish reflector easily provides Australia wide coverage with plenty of signal margin even when used in remote areas
  • Aerodynamic design
  • Less weight at only 13kg on the roof so no need for reinforcing
  • The lowest profile of any auto system on the market at one 17cm off the roof
  • Enhanced gearbox designed for positioning accuracy means more signal than most conventional auto dishes sold in Australia
  • App controlled - system can be opened and closed using the app (can also be operated using the Maxview control box)
  • Automatic software updates via the app in the event of a satellite frequency change
  • Built in GPS - automatically stores last known location and sets the LNB skew correctly
  • Auto skew - skew is set simultaneously to satellite search process, minimising satellite acquisition time and requiring no additional input from the user

CONS

  • Auto retracts on ignition but does require this feature to be wired to an ignition source
  • Dish may have to be closed in heavy winds
  • Larger footprint on the roof - 1.2m x 1m

Maxview Connect

SatKing Promax

PROS

  • Fully automatic including auto skew
  • Smallest footprint on the roof - operational area of only 600 x 600mm so will fit in places where a conventional dish will not
  • High wind tolerance - features a rigid 500mm square panel that is not prone to fluttering in the wind like a conventional dish
  • Built in GPS - automatically stores last known location and sets the LNB skew correctly
  • Last position memory to save on search times
  • Automatic retraction upon vehicle start up or if you exceed 10KPH

CONS

  • High profile of 28cm off the roof
  • Heavier on roof at 20kg - may require reinforcing (suggest installing over reinforced area such as ensuite partition wall)
  • Less aerodynamic design
  • Lower signal compared to a 85cm conventional dish due to physical reflector size of flat panel array
