Does this satellite TV kit include a VAST decoder?

No. The base hardware kit does not include a decoder. It is intended for customers who already have an approved VAST decoder or a suitable Foxtel decoder. If you need a VAST decoder, check the available options on the product page before ordering.

What comes in the satellite TV hardware kit?

The kit includes a satellite dish, roof mount, LNB, 3200 digital satellite alignment meter, 15 metres of quad-shield coaxial cable, a wallplate, internal flylead or flyleads, and installation instructions. The wallplate supplied depends on whether the setup is for VAST or Foxtel.

Can I use my existing VAST decoder with this kit?

Yes, that is one of the main reasons to choose this kit. You will need an approved VAST decoder to receive VAST free-to-air satellite television. Check that your existing decoder is working and suitable for your intended setup.

Can I use this kit with Foxtel?

The kit is offered for VAST or Foxtel installations. If you plan to use it with a Foxtel decoder, select the appropriate option so the supplied wallplate and connections suit your setup. Your Foxtel service and decoder requirements still apply.

Why does the kit include a satellite meter?

The meter helps you align the dish to the intended satellite. It provides a signal reading while you adjust the dish, making alignment easier than trying to judge the picture on a television indoors.

Is this an automatic satellite dish?

No. This is a dish you align during installation using the supplied meter and instructions. If you want a roof-mounted system that finds the satellite automatically each time you stop, you need an automatic satellite antenna instead.

Can I install the satellite dish myself?

The kit is designed for DIY installation and includes instructions covering the direction and angle for alignment. You will need a suitable mounting position, a clear view towards the satellite and a safe way to run the cable indoors. If you are unsure about roof work, waterproofing or cable routing, use a qualified installer.

Can the mount go on a wall instead of a tin roof?

The supplied mount is described as a tin-roof mount that can be modified for vertical wall mounting. Check whether your wall and fixing method are suitable before installation.

How much cable is supplied?

The kit includes 15 metres of quad-shield coaxial cable for the run from the dish to the wallplate, plus an internal flylead or flyleads to connect the wallplate to your decoder. Plan the cable route before ordering so you know whether 15 metres is enough.

Will this kit work if trees block the satellite?

Satellite TV needs a clear view towards the satellite. Trees, buildings or other obstacles in that direction can block reception, so choose the dish location carefully before fixing the mount.

Is this kit suitable for a holiday house or second dwelling?

Yes. It is specifically offered to people who want to use an existing VAST or Foxtel decoder at another property. The kit supplies the receiving hardware; you bring your compatible decoder or select a VAST decoder option when ordering.
