This guide covers common problems with the original Altech UEC 4121 240V VAST decoder. The 4121RV is a different model; use instructions appropriate to your equipment.
Start by noting the exact on-screen message. A smartcard authorisation problem, missing satellite signal and hardware fault require different checks.
Smartcard Failure
Check that the decoder’s own smartcard is inserted correctly according to its manual. Do not swap in a card from another VAST decoder.
Do not scrape the contacts with cardboard or abrasive materials. If the error persists, contact the manufacturer or a suitable technician. The message alone does not establish that the card reader has failed.

Decoder Rehit or Traveller Renewal?
A decoder rehit refreshes authorisation information on a registered smartcard. It does not renew an expired traveller registration or fix a missing satellite signal.
If your registration is current but viewing authorisation has been lost, follow the current rehit instructions on the official MySatTV website. The decoder must be powered on, connected to the dish and receiving the VAST satellite signal.
If your traveller registration has expired, complete the current renewal process first. Contact VAST on 1300 993 376 if you need registration assistance.
Do not assume a fixed processing time.
No Signal or Searching for Signal
Check accessible cable connections and look for visible cable damage. Reception can also be affected by dish alignment, obstructions, weather or the LNB.
The decoder’s LNB settings must match the installed LNB. Do not change every installation to one frequency without identifying its equipment.

No Power or Repeated Rebooting
Persistent power or rebooting faults may require professional assessment. Do not remove the cover, replace internal power boards or attempt soldering based on this guide.
Contact UEC support or a suitably qualified repair technician to discuss assessment and whether repair is practical.
Replacing an Older Altech 4121
If replacement is appropriate, compare the UEC DSD5000 VAST decoder and SatKing 1000CA VAST decoder.
Use the smartcard supplied with the new decoder and arrange registration through VAST. Your old card cannot simply be transferred to the replacement.
