Hi. I have cathedral ceilings and no roof cavity, just an 80mm insulation filled space between the roof tin and the interior lining boards of the ceiling. Could I use this product to remove heat from inside the house and is there a vent cover designed for the ceiling inside my house where it will be visible? Thanks
Hi Tammy,
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I wouldn't suggest installing on your cathedral roof as it would be too noisy and too powerful. Id suggest a smaller version perhaps 150mm with an on and off switch. You may need to search for this online. Try Pre Ventilation in Victoria.
Cheers
John
Hi, Is the vent fan cyclone rated? Cheers,
Hi there, no it isn't cyclone rated. Cheers
John
Hi, just wondering if there is the option for an on/off switch?
Hi Rhys,
There isn't one included but you could easily install a switch on the positive cable coming from the solar panel and run this down to a switch and back up again.

John
Hello. What would a typical install fee be? Are roofing companies the people to contact or solar installers?
Hi there,
We would suggest a roof plumber to install the roof fans.
Cheers,
John
Hi, Looking at replacing a whirly bird exhaust fan with you solar type, I need to know the hole diameter required on a corrugated metal roof Thanks Dave
Hi Dave,
The fan requires a 320mm hole, ensuring it's installed at the peak of the roof so the flashing of the solar fan is tucked under the roof capping.

Is there a battery backup system for dull days? Or is there a kit to connect to mains for those times? Can you vary the temp for cut in to below the 25degrees? eg 22? I was thinking 2 of these for a 100m2 warehouse with a 6 m high roof - does that sound right?
Hi Peter,
Solarking do not offer a battery backup at this stage or mains connection and the temp sensor is a fixed type, not adjustable. The fan will still operate at lower speeds even on dull days so this might just be enough to exhaust the shed to make it more comfortable. Two fans is definitely ample.

nice looking product. warranty?
Hi there. Yes they work very well. 2 year warranty on the fan and 10 year warranty on the solar panel output.
Are these BAL rated?
Hi,
The fans are currently not BAL rated. However, I have recently been told by Solarking that they are working on a modification so that they can be certified.
Feel free to give them a call. 03 9553 3399 as they would have the most up to date information.
Philip.
Hi there, My roof has a very low pitch and there's an issue with condensation, do you believe this may help with the condensation issues/removing excess moisture? Thanks, Angie
Hi Angie,
The fan will always help with moisture removal. It is hard for me to comment on your particular situation but with the large volume of air the fans extract it will always remove moistute to some degree. If you need it to run all the time (without sunlight and/or under 25 degrees) you can purchase the plug pack and unclip the temperature sensor from the motor.
Regards,
Philip
Hi is there any way to bypass the temperature cut off control so fan will ran if its colder than 24 degrees I want it to run any time the sun is out so got air flow through my shed t
Hi Tony,
Yes, if you unplug the sensor from the motor it will run at any temperature. If you add the DC plug pack it will then run 24-hours a day.
Regards,
Philip
I have a 40ft container with a fitting for a 12 inch whirlybird. I would prefer to put a solar fan onto it so I can increase the airflow through the container to help prevent condensation rain on the inside. Could you advise the O.D. that your fans are meant to fit over? Cheers
Hi Brett,
The OD of the fan is 300mm so you need a hole of 320mm so that it fits. Satking advise installing at either end of the container. Plenty of peope have successfully used them for containers but the installation needs to be thorough to ensure they don't cause a leak.

Philip
I have a 7 x 4.5m shed with skillion roof (no seperate roof cavity) that is 2.8m (at highest point). Will this unit be too big or too noisy? In addition, can the fan be wired up to a 12v power supply (direct from battery in an off grid system) Thank you
Hi Col,
It is difficult for me to say if you'd find it noisy as that's very subjective.
All I can say is that the new motors are quiet and you can run the units through the supplied resistor for half speed and therefore a quieter operation if required.
They do move a lot of air so there has to be a certain amount of noise.
You would be fine running off 12V. You need is a 2.5mm DC plus to go into the fan.
Regards.
Philip
Hi, When will the power cord connection for the DC compatible unit be available? Also, if connected to DC, will it still work on Solar automatically or DC needs to be disconnected first?
Hi Vinny,
I have the power supplies in the VIC store. Give me a call if you need one. 03 9772 8318.
The unit always defaults to solar if there is sunlight. It will only run on the external DC when the panel isn't powering the unit. If you want it to run all the time there is no need to disconnect the DC.
Regards,
Philip
Hi, I am looking to order 4 of these but I don't want to use it with DC to keep my energy bills low. I do want something working at night though, so I am also getting some whirlybirds installed. My question is, do you have models without the new DC option or will this model still work fine without connecting the DC? Or is there an on/off switch for the DC that I could just always have switched to off?
Hi Ali,
The DC input is optional. You do not need to connect it. If you don't, the unit will still run off the panel in sunlight.
Regards,
Philip.
Hi, I know you say that these can be installed on a flat roof with the flashing provided, just to be sure, does that include Clip-Lock? Cheers Mark
Hi Mark,
For a flat metal roof, I would advise that you get in a roof plumber. Pitched is fine as you can install under the capping but something may need to be fabricated for a flat roof.
Regards,
Philip
I have a shed with a skillion roof (corrugated iron), is the Solar King Roof vent still suitable? Would it be best placed under the capping on the highest side of the roof? Thanks in advance
Hi,
Yes, under the capping is the correct installation point for a tin roof.
Cheers,
Philip
I intend in installing two of these on my roof (tiled). My question is, should I install under eave vents as well?
Hi Pablo,
Yes you should. The more venting, the better the fans reduce the roof space temperature.
A good tip is to install a vent away from where the fan is installed, this allows more, cooler outside air to flow through the roof space.
Regards,
Philip
How easy is installation on a tiled roof and is there any chance of a video showing it?
Hi Luke, installation is pretty easy on a tiled roof. Remove one tile from the 3rd or 4th row down and slip the flashing in under the tiles above and silicon down the sides. Then the main body is affixed to the flashing.
I couldn't find much on Youtube for you but have a look at this link - https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=solarking+roof+fan+installation
Cheers
John
I just purchased one and now find out it’s not going to be enough to extract the hot air in our ceiling..Why ? Because it should be advertised the square meters what one unit will do..I found out when I opened the package!,, Can you explain about this. Thanks
Hi Kevin, Not sure that you read our advertisement on the specifications of the fan. We do make it very clear. On our website:
https://www.satplus.com.au/products/solar-roof-ventilation-fan?variant=1717380743193
These solar powered roof ventilation fans vs a whirlybird are 21 times more effective due to the powerful, brushless DC motor and high output fan.
Whirly birds can only exhaust around 100CBM (Cubic Metres) of air per hour while the SolarKing 320MM solar fan can pump 2100CBM of air per hour, more than 20x the air movement.
So, work out the m3 in your roof and purchase the number of fans necessary. For most homes, 1 is enough. If you have only purchased one and feel you need another, simply purchase one from our website.

John
