included installation of a new Maxview manual windup dish as well as our existing Humax PVR (purchased from you in August 2013).  The Maxview dish continues to operate beautifully and during the last 18 months we’ve been away in the caravan for a total of close to 10 months so we’ve given it good use.   Using the “satellite finder” in my Wiki Camps app on my iPhone I am able to very quickly align the dish and usually complete the process in about 3 minutes.  I just use the Humax and the TV for signal detection and virtually always achieve a 100% reading in both “strength” and “quality”.  I’ve end of the dish arm that receives the reflected signal.  Throughout the world there are a few different LNB types.  The important thing to know here is that the LNB that comes pre-fitted to the Maxview Crank Up dish has two outputs and is compatible with ALL Australian pay TV satellite boxes (decoders) including Foxtel IQ and the free to air service known as size=\"4\"\u003eThe Maxview Crankup is a manual system.  That is:  Wind it up - rotate the dish - find the signal.  The LNB position within its holder is called the skew position.  Included with the Maxview Crank Up is a chart which shows elevation, direction and LNB skew.  There are 5 LNB skew zones within Australia.  Depending on which zone you're in, you may have to rotate the LNB to the right position.  Fortunately, the zones are very expansive as you can imagine.  For instance, zone 1 goes all the way from Tasmania to Hervey Bay: over 2000 kilometres.  It's always a good idea though, to install your Maxview Crank Up dish near the rear end of the van or to the side of the van so you can access the LNB if need be.  You might even be fortunate enough to be able to install it close to a vent where you can reach up and adjust the LNB.  Remember though, it's not often you need to adjust it.  See LNB zone map Maxview Roof Mounted Crank Up Sat Dish B2590/85AU

Product Description

MAXVIEW CRANK UP SATELLITE DISH - SIMPLY THE BEST

Australian version with modified elevation up to 70 degrees to suit far north QLD and NT.  Australian LNB fitted for reception of Foxtel and VAST free to air services.  Australian instructions, service, support and warranty.

SatPlus are the exclusive distributor of the Maxview range of touring satellite systems from the UK.  Our current pricing makes these Maxview Crank Up Systems very desirable.

The Maxview 2590/85AU crank up satellite dish offers most of the benefits of an automatic dish without the hefty price tag.  These benefits include:

  • Roof mounted for security
  • Wind up from inside your van
  • Australia wide coverage
  • No need to carry out and align a manual dish each time
  • No storage required
  • Low profile on your roof
  • Quick alignment
  • Totally mechanical so no chance of electronic failure

WHY USE A WIND UP TV ANTENNA THAT HARDLY WORKS WHEN YOU CAN HAVE A WIND UP SATELLITE DISH THAT WORKS EVERYTIME?

Wind up from inside your van and align the dish for perfect satellite TV reception whether in the middle of the desert or the middle of town.  Receive the full range of digital TV channels via satellite and all free to air with no ongoing costs....it is so easy you'll never go back to a standard TV antenna again.

A review of the Crank Up by one of our customers:

"We’ve had our new Otron caravan for almost 18 months now.  You would be aware from our previous dealings that as part of the initial build we included installation of a new Maxview manual windup dish as well as our existing Humax PVR (purchased from you in August 2013). I’ve attached a few photos of our caravan with dish deployed and I’m quite happy for you to use these in promoting this terrific dish system if you wish."

ROOF MOUNTED INSTALLATION

Imagine being able to go ANYWHERE in Australia and get perfect TV everytime.  Furthermore, picture being able to wind up your high quality Maxview Crank Up dish from inside the van and watching the picture come on right in front of you on your TV.  That's the beauty of a roof mounted system.

INSTALLATION

Installation can be carried out by a competent handyman or we can arrange for a professional to do this for you (subject to area).  The Maxview Crank Up comes mounted on a circular aluminium plate ready to glue and screw to your roof.  A 30mm hole is drilled directly below the plate to cater for the shafts and mechanism.  The coaxial cables are then routed across the roof of the van to an overhead cupboard and down inside the cupboard to the digital satellite decoder (not included but we can supply this too).

A cutaway image showing exploded diagram of system on roof (dish not yet attached).

When complete the dish will look like this on your roof.

LOWEST PROFILE

The Maxview Crank Up is one of the lowest profile systems available in the world today.  Measuring just 170mm off the roof, your Maxview Crank Up will lay down lower than your air conditioner and won't get in the way when backing under your garage or carport.

QUALITY AND WARRANTY

Manufactured in the UK, the Maxview Crank Up is quality all the way.  Strong alloy dish bracket, with aluminium dish reflector, moulded UV stabilized plastics and best of all - solid steel gearbox and components.  Maxview maintain the highest level of workmanship and materials when producing the Maxview Crank Up system.  Hence the three year warranty.  The picture below shows the internal gearbox and components.

USING THE SYSTEM

Using the system is easy.  Simply wind up the dish to the correct elevation (charts supplied), then slowly rotate the internal direction unit until signal is found.  Peak up for maximum signal by adjusting the direction and elevation slightly.  Apply the brake lock lever....done.

TWIN OUTPUT LNB

The Maxview comes complete with twin output LNB.  What does this mean?  The LNB is the amplifier on the end of the dish arm that receives the reflected signal.  Throughout the world there are a few different LNB types.  The important thing to know here is that the LNB that comes pre-fitted to the Maxview Crank Up dish has two outputs and is compatible with ALL Australian pay TV satellite boxes (decoders) including Foxtel IQ and the free to air service known as VAST.

UNDERSTANDING LNB SKEW

The Maxview Crankup is a manual system. See LNB zone map below:

We love the Maxview Crank Up and we're sure you will too. If you need anymore information, feel free to contact us.

You will require a satellite box to use this system which can either be a VAST box or your own Pay Tv/Foxtel box.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • Can the Maxview Crank Up be placed the where the existing Winegard Sensar HV antenna is ? It certainly looks like it should.

    Hi Peter,

It could be placed in the same position providing that the entry hole for the winder is greater than 43cm from the edge otherwise the dish would hang over the side.  Also you'll need to take into consideration surrounding obstructions like large vents or the air conditioner.

    Regards

    John

  • Hi there. Is the Maxview Crank up "self searching" or do I need to manually search for the satellite?

    Hi,

The Maxview is a manual system. We provide a satfinder in the kit and you use the handle/pointer inside the vehicle to line it up.

Have a look on our website. There is a video of a Maxview being lined up. You can link to it here:

  • does this work on the normal caravan tv and do I need any other extras other than a cast decoder like a monitor to line up to a satellite

    Hi there,

The system comes with a satellite meter to assist you to align the dish.  You will require a VAST decoder to access the free to air channels.  You can use the signal finding menu within the VAST decoder in conjunction with the satellite meter and this makes alignment easy.  No other extras required.

    Cheers

  • Two cables my Foxtel only has one

    Hi there,

The Maxview Crank Up is compatible with single tuner decoders (Foxtel and VAST) with one cable as well as twin tuner units requiring two coaxial cables.

  • Hi team,, was viewing wind up unit specs and unsure about stability of roof on Concept van between main hatch and 2 bathroom hatches..Seems a lot of flex in roof aluminium..Will the support plate eliminate this movement, as the cavity only has a fiberglass fill.. Can you confirm the diameter of the supporting plate please. regards rob.

Hi Rob and thanks for your question.

The Maxview Crank Up comes with a 500mm round aluminium mounting plate.  Generally, this is fine to glue and screw to the roof of most vans.  However, if you feel there is too much flex in the roof, you could add a larger square plate that would be sikaflexed to the roof first then mount the system with circular plate on top.  The square plate would re-enforce the roof and eliminate the flex.  Bearing in mind the Crank up is only 11KG on the roof so not a lot of weight.

    Cheers

    John

  • What is the lowered height of the dish

The lowered height of the dish is 170mm off the roof of the van.

  • How hard is it to install the Maxview Crank Up System myself?

It is not difficult at all and anyone with basic handyman skills can do it.  First, measure your van to make sure you have an area free of obstructions that is approximately 1.2m long by 1.0m wide.  The width can be less if the obstruction is a vent or solar panel.  For example, if you have a four seasons hatch in the middle of the van and only 85cm wide from the hatch to the edge of the van then this will be OK.  However, if you had an air conditioner that was 260mm tall and the only location for the dish was next to the air con, there is a possibility that the LNB arm on the end of the Maxview dish may foul on the air con when rotating the dish looking for the signal.  In general, if you have a free corner, then it will fit nicely at the front or back.  Bear in mind that the handle will be directly below the dish inside the van so be sure that your chosen spot allows for easy access to the handle and won't be too close to overhead cupboards or come through where there is a speaker or light on the roof.  Remember also that the dish must fold down towards the back of the van not the front.

Clean the roof area of the van with soapy water and allow to dry.  Place the system on the roof and mark a circle on the roof around the plate.  Find the centre of the circle (or use the plate as a template) and drill a 30mm hole through the roof.   Scuff the aluminium plate and the roof with sandpaper to improve bonding.

Using Sikaflex marine, apply several circles of adhesive around the underside of the plate.  These circles will not only bond the system to the roof but will also act as multiple seals to prevent water ingress through the previously drilled hole.  Insert the square tube (directional shaft) into the underside of the plate and place over the hole.  Apply pressure to seat the system on the roof.  Check inside to make sure the square tube is not touching the side of the 30mm hole. If so, simply slide the system slightly to clear the hole.  The plate can be screwed down to the roof but this is optional and only necessary if the roof skin is not fixed to the framework of the van.  If you do screw it down, be sure to fill each screw hole with Sikaflex before inserting the screw.

Now cut the internal shafts to length to suit your roof thickness and fit off the internal winder.

Last job is to run the cables externally across the roof and drill through above an overhead cupboard and down to the location of the satellite decoder.  A cover plate is included and again, be sure to fill the cable entry hole with Sikaflex prior to gluing the cover plate down.  Fit off cables and align the dish.

If you require more information, we can email the installation manual to you.

  • 1. What voltage does the VAST decoder require. 12v or 240v. 2. Do I have to run two aerial cables from dish to inside the van. One for free to air and a seperate one for foxtel.

    Hi Stuart,

The VAST box will run on either 12 or 240V. It is actually 12V into the box and a transformer is also supplied.

The Crank up comes standard with a twin LNB and twin cables, so yes, you can use one for FTA and one for Foxtel.

If you have a twin input Foxtel box and VAST, you can use a multiswitch allowing you to run 3 or 4 outputs form the twin cable. These are simple to install and cheap to buy.

    Philip.

  • can I buy your maxview crank up system in perth wa

    Hi Les,

There are two companies in Perth that usually carry the Maxview. One should certainly have stock.
Tony's Auto Electrics In Bayswater. 0450 631915 or Access Antennas in Osborne Park. 08 9446 4433. Both of these can install if required too.

  • If I get a Maxview plus crank up satellite dish, will I still need my Winegard sensar aerial as well to get terrestrial channels?

Hi there Colin, You can choose to remove your Winegard aerial if need be to make space for the Crank Up Satellite dish.  Bearing in mind that the dish is 85cm diameter so the hole where your Winegard goes through the roof needs to be at least half this distance to ensure he dish isn't protruding past the side of the van.  Also, if you are in a heavily treed area, your dish may not be able to acquire signal through the trees whereas you may pick up a channel or two off your aerial.  Our advise is always to keep your antenna there if you have enough space to accomodate the dish.    Regards   John

  • What sort of cost would it be to have the unit installed

    Hi Lynette,

Our installer in Melbourne usually charges between $400 and $500.

Use that as a guide though, as some vehicles are easier or harder than others.

    Regards,

    Philip.
