ALDEN FULLY AUTOMATIC SATELLITE SYSTEM

If you've travelled Australia or perhaps planning to, you may be aware that TV reception can be very poor or even non existent inland and even on the coast.  Typically, TV signals are transmitted via a local TV repeater tower.  However, the problem with receiving these signals in a caravan is that generally caravan antennas are small and compact therefore performance is compromised, the repeater towers are low power so distance from the tower is limited, the terrain between you and the tower may restrict any signals being received by your antenna or simply that due to the massive land mass of this country, that TV signals are simply not there to be picked up at all.  This brings us to the wonderful world of satellite TV.  What are the benefits over a standard caravan antenna?  No matter where you are in Australia, providing there is a clear path to the sky in the correct direction free of obstacles such as trees, you WILL get perfect, crystal clear TV viewing of the available channels.  It simply works.  Regardless of your geographic location, reception is flawless.

Channel availability will depend on your choice of whether you have a pay TV subscription or a free to air, Aurora smartcard for ABC, SBS, Seven and Imparja.  If you do have a pay TV decoder at home then you will be able to watch these channels anywhere in the country.

This brings us to the Alden system.  Now in Australia and fully tested on the road in remote areas such as the Kimberleys, North of Cairns and Darwin.  The Alden is a one button, search and seek, fully automatic, European made satellite TV system that will track the satellite in a few minutes and enable you to watch perfect TV.  The system comes as a fully assembled package in the box ready to be installed on any flat roof section of your caravan or motorhome.  There are 3 adequate lengths of pre-terminated cable (one for the dish motor, one for the LNB motor and the other is a coaxial cable for signal to the control box).  The cable is fed through a cable entry cover (included) to seal the hole that will be drilled through the roof of the van into a cupboard that will house the control box.

The control box is pre programmed at the Alden factory for the popular Australian satellites: Optus D1, Optus C1, Optus D2, Intelsat8 and the new Optus D3.  The only user intervention required when using the Alden system is to press the green button to select the required satellite, then the grey button to select the correct LNB position.  That's it.  The Alden will commence it's search sequence and locate the satellite.  Changing satellites is just as easy as repeating this process.

Fiting the system is relatively easy if you are aware of the importance of securing the unit to the roof.  We suggest an aluminium plate or channels glued and screwed to the roof first to provide a good solid base for the Alden satellite dish to be fixed to.  Protect cable runs from the dish to the entry hole and run the cables down through an overhead cupboard to the control box.  Do not cut any cables.  Loop them on the roof or in the cupboard.

Pick a location on the roof that provides clearance all the way around the unit.  We suggest placing the Alden dish on the roof and performing a dummy search just to be sure that it will not foul on anything nearby such as roof top air conditioners, solar panels or air vents.  You can see from the image to the left that installation was tight.
