i was initially a bit skeptical about this meter when it first arrived as I've ordered the SatLink units before and this one looked surprisingly similar. I was never a fan of the SatLink. After a short charge, i was pleasantly surprised at the easy to navigate software and the overall performance of the meter. The buttons feel quite responsive and don't need to be pressed down hard like other meters and the power is switched on by use of a rocker switch at the top. On startup, you are greeted with 4 colour icons - Quick Search, Satellite Install, Multimedia and System Setup. I went straight to Quick Search, selected the correct satellite, checked the LNB frequency and aligned my dish. The unit beeps and displays no signal quality or strength until signal lock. Then it emits a constant beep on signal lock with an easy to read signal quality bar, BER level, Pwr in dBuV and signal to noise ratio. All that is needed to perform a quick satellite alignment.
The Satellite Install section enables you to edit the satellite names and transponder frequencies that are stored in the meter. This list is current at the moment so there shouldn't be much of a need to make too many changes here.
The Multimedia section will playback music and pictures. I couldn't see a real bonus here other than to insert a small USB drive in the bottom and use it for music playback while your up on the roof doing your installation.
System Setup lets you input your longitude and latitude so you can calculate the satellite direction and elevation which could be useful.
All in all, for the price of this meter, it is definitely good value and if you're an electrician that doesn't do a lot of satellite work then it's perfect. It gets the job done. If you're a professional installer that needs a backup meter or for your offsider, then this is the one. It has a 3000m/A LI-ION battery so you should get quite a few hours use before the next charge. It's a thumbs up from us.
